Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Neurobiology is seeking a qualified Research Technician. This position will study the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.


The incumbent should have previous experience with molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, cloning, and qPCR and protein biochemical techniques, including SDS-PAGE, western blot analysis, and ELISA. Previous experience with mouse handling, including breeding and maintenance of a mouse colony, is preferred but not required. The incumbent should have an eagerness to learn new technologies and techniques. Good organizational skills and familiarity with computers/software are desired. Additional duties will include training undergraduate students as well as assisting and providing support to graduate students, postdocs, and technicians. This position represents an excellent opportunity to further basic laboratory and research skills in a dynamic disease-oriented neuroscience environment.

BA/BS degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position.
