Position Description

The Medical and Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF) was officially created as the fundraising entity responsible for the joint philanthropic ventures of UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences. The MHSF acts as the central source for patients, alumni, and friends to contribute to any clinical or research endeavor at either or both UPMC and Pitt.

The Medical and Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF) is seeking a Senior Development Associate. This candidate will offer high level project support to the Director of Development, UPMC Mercy. The candidate will also develop and implement fund-raising strategies for direct identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of selected gifts and projects as assigned.

The candidate will oversee a development office in a Director's absence.


This position requires an adaptive, flexible, energetic individual with a high degree of professionalism; oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Computer skills are necessary with knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with Advance database preferred. A Bachelor's degree is required with at least two years direct fundraising experience is preferred.

At least two years' direct individual fundraising/development or related experience preferred with specific track record in individual gift solicitation, planned giving, and volunteer management.
Bachelor's degree required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
