Sr. Compliance Analyst - Conflict of Interest

Purpose:Under the direction of the VP Chief Audit Officer and Compliance Manager, COI, the Senior Compliance Analyst, COI is primarily responsible for supporting the organizational oversight, mission and goals of the Corporate Office of Ethics and Compliance. Assistance and support includes highly complex analysis of data and information sets for company-wide initiatives, research and analysis of regulations and industry guidance for dissemination across the UPMC organization, monitoring and compiling reports of compliance activity and behavior throughout the organization as identified through Compliance reporting mechanisms, and conducting highly complex and sensitive internal investigations and audits in support of the Corporate Compliance plan. The Senior Compliance Analyst, COI will also provide guidance and support to entity Compliance Officers throughout the organization. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the implementation and success of ongoing departmental goals.Responsibilities:
Assist in developing, maintaining and exhibiting departmental professionalism and reputation
Assist in planning, developing and presenting educational and training materials related to specific compliance topics, including annual mandatory training modules to be utilized across the UPMC organization
Assist leadership on special projects, as assigned
Assist with collection and monitoring of Compliance Watch results Facilitate internal investigations
Contribute to ongoing departmental goals
Develop thorough understanding of UPMC University Industry Relationships Policy (the Policy) and implement Policy as required for UPMC employees' Industry relationships
Effectively communicate and support the values of UPMC to employees at all levels of the organization
Engage in initiative for Conflicts of Interest form completion across UPMC and continue frequent communication to ensure maximum completion rate
Engage in frequent contact with representatives of outside Industry to ensure Policy guidelines are incorporated into consulting agreements
Extract, compile and interpret regulatory and industry guidance, as well as internal data, for purposes of regulatory analysis and organizational guidance
Facilitate responses relating to external government audits and investigations Assist in establishing and maintaining departmental and system-wide policies, procedures and tools to support compliance activities
Help to enhance and maintain internal and external websites
Navigate internal and external databases to mine information and ensure appropriate enforcement of UPMC policies, to include the Policy
Oversees junior Compliance staff, as required
Possess understanding of health care and industry terminology and risk
Raise and interpret COI issues with the assistance of the Compliance Manager, COI, for issues of greater complexity
Review Consulting Agreements for compliance with the Policy at the request of Department Chairs and Executive Administrators within University of Pittsburgh Physicians, and other UPMC leadership, for employee engagements with outside Industry, to include: physician consulting agreements, advisory board agreements, speaker agreements, etc.
Secondary support responsibilities may include: Assist in meeting various regulatory filing requirements to government agencies, including those imposed under the Deficit Reduction Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Provide investigatory and research support for the UPMC Office of Patient and Consumer Privacy Provide corporate guidance and support to entity Privacy and Compliance Officers throughout the organization Monitor and report on Compliance Helpline (hotline), Exit Interviews, related matters and other miscellaneous compliance projects, as assigned Perform chart reviews and associated research to assess compliance with coding and billing regulations
Work with the Compliance Manager, COI Collaborate with leadership from relevant operational departments to identify and mitigate risk issues at the entity leve


Advanced Degree, Masters or above, in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Informatics or Law
Fiveyears of health care, compliance or other related work experience. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences
Proficiency with associated technology solutions such as Microsoft Excel and Access Preferred: Professional Certification in Compliance and/or data analytics strongly preferred and can be considered in lieu of work experience.
Experience in an academic medical center setting and/or conflict management planning
Technical acumen and the ability to learn and identify best practices relating to new technology solutions
Experience researching and interpreting regulation and performing internal investigations Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position, as is the ability to deal with ambiguity
